GAZEL VESPREMI 1918 -1976 In mid-February a shocking news hit the Kossuth House: Gazel Vespremi, our beloved fellow-director, outstanding branch manager and faithful fraternal brother passed away. He was a deeply religious man and the Lord loved Gazel by sending him such a devoted wife like Donna and blessed their marriage with two wonderful and talented children. His understanding and loving family inspired him to get involved in religious, civic, patriotic and fraternal activities which earned him sincere respect and grateful appreciation from his fellowmen. He was born in this country hut always remained true to the Magyar heritage of his parents who came to the New Land from Hungary. As a young man he won first prize in the organizing contest of the Federation: a trip to the Old Country. While in Hungary, he fell in love with the native land and customs of his ancestors and this deep-rooted feeling accompanied him until his untimely death. He was elected to serve as a Member of the Supreme Council in 1952 — the youngest Director on the Board — and became Vice-President in 1957. After his illness had first stricken him, Honorary Directorship was bestowed on him for one term. He was reelected Director in 1972. Without faith in Christ and the resurrection we could hardly find consolation for our painful loss. Death is, however, not the dreadful end, merely a threshold leading to a better life promised by the Master to all those who have faith in Him. Gazel believed in the resurrection, we know that he reached the Promised Land. Farewell, Gazel, until we meet again! (L.L.E.)
