The 12 month period of the contest would start on June 1, 1975 and would end on May 31, 1976. The awards would be announced at the 1976 Convention. At the Western Pennsylvania District meeting an anniversary celebration was discussed for 1976. Similar anniversary celebrations should be planned throughout the country. As I pointed out before, our Field Force members should make adjustment in their pattern and technique of salesmanship. The inflation factor also makes this necessary. Quoting rates from our new rate book and comparing the available new life insurance plans to give the best service to satisfy the applicant’s insurance need, requires expert knowledge. The second volume of the F.I.C. course gives basic principles and offers examples to give such an expert service. It is my opinion that it would be very helpful to our Field Force if they could spend a day or two in Ligonier, Pennsylvania prior to their meeting with the National Officers to study the basic principles, learn new techniques and familiarize themselves with our new rate book. VI. MEDICAL DIRECTOR This was the third year I had the privilege to work with Dr. Paul Harsanyi, Medical Director. He cooperated with us in good spirit and he maintained the traditional first risk medical standard in the performance of his expert medical services. At this place I only want to thank him for his dedicated expert services and cooperation working together for the welfare of the Federation. The mortality ratio is the lowest in the insurance industry. We should thank our Medical Director, the Good Lord, the high living and medical standard in the United States for this excellent record. 1967 .......... .......... 50.0 1971 ........... .......... 47.1 1968 ........... .......... 48.7 1972 ........... ........... 52.5 1969 .......... .......... 50.1 1973 ........... .......... 50.5 1970 ........... ........... 37.2 1974 .......... .......... 45.14 Respectfully submitted by Arpad George, Secretary FROM THE OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY During the Ligonier evening fellowships on April 29 and 30th Calvin Synod celebrated the 75th anniversary of the Reformátusok Lapja and honored Rev. and Mrs. Joseph Kecskemethy, Rev. and Mrs. Alexander Babos, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Gyure and Mr. Nicholas Szegedi with recognition certificates. Mr. Szegedi is the manager of our Wallingford Branch No. 81. President Beky presented the golden medal of honor to Rev. Kecskemethy in recognition of his dedicated services rendered for the welfare of the HRFA for almost 12 years as National Secretary. During his term in office five Hungarian sick and death benefit societies merged with the Federation. He started our promotional work in Canada. By the act of Congress the age limit for the applicants was raised to age 65. He also organized many new branches in 8 states. Rev. Kecskemethy was the Superintendent of our Bethlen Home for 13 years. During this time he built the superintendent’s home, the fellowship hall for national meetings and the Kecskemethy wing of the present nursing home. For 20 years he was the pastor of the East Chicago and Passaic congregations. After 45 years of service and dedicated work Reverend and Mrs. Kecskemethy, nee Elizabeth Korocz retired at Portland, Maine, near to their sons: Joseph, the employment commissioner for the State of Vermont and Stephen, the conductor of the Portland Symphony Orchestra. We wish them joy and happiness in their retirement. At the end of the meeting the following members of the Synodical Council were unanimously elected for a two year period: Rt. Rev. Dr. John Butosi bishop; Rev. Desmond Parragh deputy bishop; Rev. Francis Vitéz secretary; Dr. Zoltán Király treasurer; Dr. Joseph Piri presbyter at large. We extend our greetings to the new Synodical Council and congratulate them as good standing members of the Federation. Six members were also elected to represent the Synod at the next Board of Directors meeting of the Bethlen Home. Mrs. Palma Suzanne Millies a member of our Chicago branch wrote a teachers manual for science fiction. Pressure is brought upon the young mother to work the same material out in detail as a text book for high school students. Science fiction is becoming one of the most popular classes in high school.
