II. PROMOTION 1. Production a) The amount of the annual quota was highest in 1969 and lowest in 1971. b) The gross production was highest again in 1969 and lowest in 1968. The second lowest production was in 1972. It is interesting to note that both 1968 and 1972 were Convention years. It is strange that one would think that the production should be the highest in the Convention years, instead the production is the lowest in the Convention years. In spite of the campaigning and electioneering of the delegates and the extra escalating costs of the Conventions the production goes down in every Convention year. c) The highest amount of 1st year net production was ,n 1970 and the lowest was in 1972. The lowest 2nd year net production was in 1971 and the highest in percentage was 1972. d) Reviewing and reevaluating the above-stated figures we note that between 1971 and 1972 there was in the 1st and 2nd year lapses a 4% decrease in favor of 1972. The pattern indicates a definite improvement in quality production. e) The highest increase in our insurance in force was in 1970 and the lowest was again in our two Convention years of 1968 and 1972. f) The reasons for the drop in membership, number of certificates and unimpressive increase in our insurance in force are: 1) Our 1st year lapses are still too high and every effort must be made to lover it. 2) Our 2nd year lapses are also still too high and our Field Force members must realize that they are “morally and financially responsible” for them. The enforcement of this responsibility should be more strictly maintained. 3) In practically every year we must terminate our contract with a few Section Managers who use our compensation system to their own advantage and against the interests of our Federation. Mr. Joseph Bakty, Mrs. Caroline Baksy, Mr. Imre Bogár, Mr. Joseph Gyenes and Mr. John Szabó requested Section Manager positions under quota basis for 1973. 4) The large amount of cash surrenders is still a detrimental factor to our production. 5) In 1972 we had six Field Force members who ended the year with overproduction: 124% Dr. Arthur Ludwig ($248,500) 111% Mrs. Emma Oris ($166,500) 107% Mr. Joseph Molnár, Jr. ($268,750) 106% Dr. Tibor Halo ($266,500) 102% Dr. Tibor Köss ($240,500) 102% Dr. Antal Viczian ($129,000) 3. Branches a) Active U.S.A. and Canadian branches on December 31, 1972: 171. b) Change in branch management 1) New branch managers appointed: 14. 2) Resigned branch managers numbered 14. c) Branch mergers numbered 5. d) Change of branch name: 1. e) New branch: 1. 4. Mortality Ratio Dr. Frank Horvath, Medical Director, served the Federation faithfully for over 30 years. He resigned from his position because of his illness in March, 1972. He died in Florida on November 9, 1972. The Board of Directors unanimously elected Dr. Paul Harsanyi as our new Medical Director. Dr. Harsanyi was broken into his position by Dr. Horvath. As we mourn the memory of Dr. Horvath, we thank him for training Dr. Harsanyi to be his successor. The Federation’s excellent mortality ratio may be credited to the conscientious and dedicated work of Dr. Horvath; the good physical bodies and the hygienic way of life of the Hungarian people; and finally to the longer living index of the people of the United States. In 1971 the average age of men in the U.S. was 68.1 and of women, 75.1. The Federation’s mortality ratio in 1972 was 52.5. III. NEW INSURANCE PLANS In my Convention report I stated that the New York State legislature made it mandatory to work out their new plans on one of the latest Commissioner Mortality Tables. Mr. Urda, our actuary, submitted our plans to the Board of Directors at our January meeting in Ligonier, Pa. The plans will be submitted to the Board with its request of changes and the new plans recommended by our actuary. The list of plans will be recieved and reevaluated by the proper Committee which will present its recommendation to the plenary session for final approval. Parallel with the plans, the Board should discuss and if ready, make final decision on the new compensation system of our Field Force to be in effect from January 1, 1974. The V ery Reverend Tibor Toth, Dean and Vice-President of our Federation preached the Sermon at the Easter Worship Service in the Washington. D. C. Hungarian Reformed Church Very Rev. Tibor Toth, Rt. Rev. Dr. Zoltán Beky and Rt. Rev. Arpad George. 16
