Upon question from the floor President Beky explained that the committees could call anyone in an advisory capacity or for information. 46. The Convention heard the Report of the Accountants Koppelman & Eglow presented by Alvin S. Eglow. (Exhibit H.) The Convention unanimously accepted the Accountants’ report as a whole and referred it to the respective committee for further discussion. 47. The Convention heard the Report of the Board of Directors’ presented by Vice President Dr. Stephen Szabó. He stated that the Board has no written report to submit at this time; several recommendations, however, would go directly to the committees. He commended the Board for their work both excellent and faithful. President Beky added his words of satisfaction and deep appreciation of the Board’s fine performance. The Convention unanimously accepted the report and joined the President and the Vice President in the expression of their appreciation. 48. President Beky appointed the members of the three working committees as prescribed by the By-Laws as follows: I. He requested the delegates that no request for transfers should be made. He also gave instructions as to the various meeting places. Controller Eszenyi remarked that there would be no need to separate the Finance and the Auditing sections of that committee; because of the great importance of the recommendations coming before he committee it should be very useful if the whole committee would hear all of them. President Beky instructed the committees to start with their work promptly. There would be no Plenary Session anymore his day; the committees should close their respective meetings. There will be, however, a Plenary Session at 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday for Morning Prayers followed by Roll Call and reading of the Minutes of the Second Day; there will also be a brief Plenary Session at 5:30 Wednesday evening to hear a progress report on the work of the committees. 50. After appointing Thomas Halo and Lt. Col. Bishop Dezső Abraham led the Convention in the morning devotions. Plenary Session 53. President Beky opened the Plenary Session of the Third Day at 9:35 a.m. 54. Recording Secretary Harsanyi read the Roll Call. All accredited members were present except the Rev. Csutoros and the Rev. Elek who had been previously excused on account of funerals. 55. Recording Secretary Vitéz read the Minutes of the Session of the Second Day. The Convention accepted the Minutes as read. 56. Legal Counsellor Eger clarified the position of the field workers in the committees. According to the By-Laws Art. 5, parag. 52 such persons have no right to participate in the discussions unless called on by the committee chairman. 57. Legal Counsellor Eger informed the Convention that Attorney Ferguson would be ready to appear before the Bethlen Home Committee any time if needed. 58. President Beky informed the Convention that Mr. László Dienes was taken to the hospital because of a probable heart attack. 59. President Beky announced that the messages and telegrams (items 34, 7 and 8 of these Minutes) will be presented at the next session. Some discussion was initiated from the floor as to whether the Federation’s support of President Nixon’s Vietnam policy should be included in these documents. It was pointed out that the Federation is not a political body and that political statements are therefore out of order. Further discussion was postponed until the presentation of he documents. 20
