English Section: KEEP FRATERNALS FRATERNAL Our number 4 Cleveland Branch sponsored its customary Christmas Party of December 13th. Prior to the Christmas festivity, I held a meeting with our Cleveland Field Force Staff in the morning and at the luncheon the Cleveland Board of Directors joined our fellowship. In the afternoon everyone was busy in making last minute arrangements for the Christmas Party. The keynote address of the 1969 National Fraternal Congress was: “KEEP FRATERNALS FRATERNAL”. It seems to me that the 1970’s will bring a revival of fraternalism to our branches now having a majority of the second, third and fourth generations of membership. The new generation is challenged to search for the spiritual, cultural and historical values inherited from their forefathers. The new search enriches them with our religious traditions and cultural background. In the future these new traits will diminish the generation gap and will strengthen the family and fraternal ties. Mr. Elmer E. Vargo, as toastmaster, introduced his Rev. Dr. Stephen Szabó, vice president of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America. fellow Board of Directors and their wives: The Rt. Rev. Dr. and Mrs. Stephen Szabó, vice president; Mr. and 10 Mrs. William Aros of Lorain, Ohio and Mr. and Mrs. William Szuch of Sharon, Pennsylvania. The Board of Directors donated the Christmas gifts to the third and fourth generation children. Brother Szuch played the part of Santa very well and distributed the valuable Christmas packages to the children. Mr. Vargo also introduced our Cleveland and Vicinity Section and District Managers with their wives: Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Benedek, Mr. and Mrs. László Kernes, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Amosky, Mrs. Jolán Abel and the new custodians, Joseph and Maria Szabó. Finally, Mr. Vargo introduced the officers of Branch 4 who did the cooking for the evening: Mrs. Steve Balogh, president; Mrs. Frank Livak, vice president; Mrs. Anna Kara, secretary; and Mrs. Louis Juriasz and Mrs. John Molnár, auditors. A variety of Hungarian delicasies were prepared and served by the women. Refreshments were provided by the men and served by Mr. Abel. It was a pleasure to meet the former branch officers who served the Federation throughout many decades with admirable dedication. It was a memorable experience to share the fellowship in true fraternal spirit with the fellow Board of Directors, with the Field Force co-workers and the Federation fellow members. Let’s keep the fraternal spirit in our Federation in the 1970’s. Right Rev. It was a great honor for me to accept the award, and I will try my best to use it wisely. As of now, my plans for the future include graduation from Rutgers University in 1971 and going on to seminary. I would like to pursue a career in religious work, either as a parish minister, an army chaplain, or a social worker and counselor. Once again I thank you for the award. Hopefuly I will be able to visit the Federation soon. Sincerely, Imre A. Bertalan
