Ii fj ■ [ [i SECRETARY’S REPORT ta FOR 1969 Mr. President, Members of the Board of Directors: By the grace of God I had the privilege to serve the Federation as secretary for a full twelve month period of time in 1969. President Dwight D. Eisenhower was interviewed when he retired at his Gettysburg farm about his agricultural adventure in his advanced age. The President in his answer claimed that he always felt that man could improve and make things better. Since early childhood he had the urge to leave a piece of land in a better condition than it was before. The few acres of land was a precious real estate to the General. It was precious to him not only because it was a small part of the United States, the land he so much loved, but it also had a historical and military background. A century ago it was devastated by the Civil War and its soil provided graves for the men of the brave and men of the free. It was a challenge and adventure to the General and the President to improve and better the land for posterity. The National officers should have the same dedication to the Federation. By our dedicated services we should aim and endeavor to improve and make better, to expand and extend the Federations fraternal, human and charitable services to our people whom we love. With the blessings of the Lord we can look forward to the year of 1971 which will be the 75th Diamond Anniversary of our Federation. God was with us in the past and has abundantly blessed our dedicated services to our people, members and friends. We pray that God be with us in the future also. Plans should be made for the solemn anniversary celebrations next year. Team work has become the key word of progress and success. I wish to give recognition, praise and thanks to the members of my team, the members of my department: Mr. Tibor Baksy and Mr. Desmond Garanyi for their cooperation, for their dedicated work and faithful services. I. ADMINISTRATION 1. State and Provincial Licenses. The Annual Statements for the years of 1968 and 1969 were prepared. The 1969 licenses were received from the thirteen states and the three provinces of our operation. The same was done for 1970. 2. Board of Directors. a.) During the year two regular meetings were held by the Board of Directors. The first regular meeting was held from March 24 thru 28, in Washington, D. C. and the second regular meeting was held on September 6, in Ligonier, Pa. 3. By-Laws. The By-Laws as amended and revised by the 1968 Convention were sent to the thirteen states of our operation. The By-Laws were translated into the Hungarian language. Mimeographed copies are available at request. 4. Executive Committee. During the year 47 Executive Committee meetings were held. Paul St. Miklossy, Treasurer was the Recording Secretary of the meetings. 5. Fraternity. Our Official Paper was edited by Dr. Zoltán Beky, President and published at the Bethlen Freedom Press, Inc., 14 Ligonier, Pa. During the year I have co-operated with the President by writing promotional and fraternal articles in English and Hungarian. I feel it my duty to emphasize the necessity of publishing more English articles and pictures illustrating the fraternal work of our Federation and its branches to prove to the Federal Government that we are a real and true fraternal organization. II. PROMOTION AND PROPAGANDA 1. Quota - Production 1968 as a convention year was very lenient with the lapses. The year 1969 when all privileges were withdrawn, compares favorably in every respect with the record of the previous year when all the special privileges were enjoyed. In 1968 the increase of insurance in force was $29,991, the increase in 1969 was $1,017,354.00. 2. Overproduction 162%—Albert Oris ($204,000) 117%—Dr. Arthur Ludwig ($68,500) 113%—Joseph Molnár, Jr. ($311,500) 110%—Dr. Tibor Köss ($138,500) 107%—Maria Szabó ($47,000) 106%—László Kernes ($318,500) 105%—Dr. Tibor Halo ($265,250) 104%—Tibor Dolinszky ($78,000) 101%—Helen Modory ($75,500) 100%—Zoltán Berky ($34,000) Desmond Garanyi ($63,000) 3. Quality of Production Few fraternal organizations and fewer commercials have better quality insurance than our Federation in 1969. I must give credit to Dr. Frank Horvath, our Medical Director who through many years of past experience and also as an excellent General Practitioner Physician has developed a system that produced a mortality ratio for our Federation which is among the very best throughout the United States. Ratio of Expected Mortality: 1968 — 48.7; 1969 — 50.1. 4. Statistical Report of Branches. The statistical figures of our Branches are quite revealing. The 1968 zero producing branches increased from 49 to 53 the number of $5000 or less producing branches decreased from 100 to 90. In 1968 our number two producing branch was Toronto 400 with $136,000 production. In 1969 it became a zero producing branch with $82,000 lapses. The production of the three New York branches was $275,000. Six Cleveland branches $238,500 and five New Brunswick branches $238,000. 5. Bethlehem, Pa. Branch Office. Mr. Frank Dance, District Manager’s production record was 73%. He started the hard but sure way to rebuild the image of the Federation. We have already changed two of his non-producing branch managers and he gave constructive branch management and promotional instructions to his agents. 6. Cleveland, Ohio Branch Office. We like to think of Cleveland as the second Debrecen of the Hungarian Calvinists in the United States. Mr. Joseph Arnosky and Mrs. Jolán Abel are doing a fine work under the direction of Mr. László Kernes, District Manager. 7. Detroit, Michigan Branch Office (Lincoln Park). On September 15th the Secretary held a meeting at our Lincoln Park office. Present: Rev. Tibor Toth, Dr. Tibor Halo, Gazéi Veszprémi, Andrew Vince, Mrs. Elizabeth Rigo and three other local branch officers. After four hours of discussion the persons present unanimously agreed to have an office worker under the direction of the Secretary to be in charge of handling the incoming mail, answer the tele
