The Convention unanimously accepted this recom­mendation. 4. Committee recommended that the present method of forwarding contributions to the Bethlen Home be dis­continued and contributions be paid when needed, upon request of the Board of Managers; the amount shall be determined by the Executive Committee subject to the approval of the Board of Directors. After discussion and clarification by the Controller the Convention voted to fix the Federation’s contri­bution to the support of the Bethlen Home in the sum of $24,000 per annum payable in monthly in­stallations of $2,000 each. 5. Committee recommended that the salary of each Supreme Officer be $15,000 per annum effective March 15, 1969. The Convention unanimously accepted this recom­mendation. 6. Committee recommended that the yearly honora­rium of the members of the Supreme Council be raised by $300. The Convention unanimously accepted this recom­mendation. 7. Committee recommended that the Convention di­rect the Supreme Council to review with the Supreme Officers the financial compensation of the District and Section Managers as well as of the Branch Managers with favorable intentions. The Convention unanimously accepted this recom­mendation. 8. Committee recommended that the contribution to the American Hungarian Federation be continued in the amount not exceeding $2,400 a year. The Convention unanimously accepted this recom­mendation. 9. Committee recommended that the Convention in­struct the Supreme Council to pay dividends when finan­cial conditions warrant the same. The Convention unanimously accepted this recom­mendation. 10. Committee recommended that the present com­mission for writing new members be raised to the high­est permissible amount on the condition that the Actuary of the Federation prepare a detailed recommendation to the September meeting of the Supreme Council to make the raise effective possibly by January 1, 1969. The Convention unanimously accepted this recom­mendation, also the report of the Finance and Aud­iting Committee in its entirety and expressed its appreciation for the Committee’s excellent work. 68. The report of the Bethlen Home Committee was heard by the Convention. The Rev. Alexander Marton was chairman, Mrs. Susanna Vizsolyi was secretary who pre­sented the Committee’s recommendations in Hungarian as follows (also Exhibit Q). 1. Committee recommended to discontinue the Or­phanage’s operation in its present form: Committee em­phatically requested that the orphans be cared for in compliance with the Federation’s By-laws. The Convention unanimously accepted this recom­mendation. 2. Committee recommended that the Building of the Orphanage be not sold; that the building be utilized by housing the material now kept in the archives and mu­seum of the Old Peoples’ Home (the space thus released be used as a chapel); the Superintendent’s apartment and the main offices remain at their present locations in the Orphanage building. The Convention unanimously accepted this recom­mendation with the addition that the building be further used for an extended retreat and youth pro­gram as far as practically possible. 3. Committee recommended that the Convention ex­press its appreciation for the Superintendent’s precise book-keeping and release him from his official responsi­bilities for the past four years. The Convention unanimously accepted this recom­mendation. 4. Committee recommended that Alexander Daroczy as secretary-treasurer of the Bethlen Freedom Press, Inc. be released from his official responsibilities. The Convention unanimously accepted this recom­mendation. 5. This recommendation of the Committee, concerning the continuation of summer schools in the Orphanage building, was aready affirmatively dealt with under point 2. 6. This recommendation of the Committee, concern­ing the Federation’s support to the Bethlen Home, was already affirmatively dealt with under point 4. of the Finance Committee’s recommendations. 7. Committee recommended that in appreciation for the faithful and efficient work of Mrs. Daroczy and Mrs. Csia, the Convention reward each of them with a $500 gift. The Convention unanimously accepted this recom­mendation. 8. Committee recommended that the Board of Man­agers be authorized to demolish certain unusable farm buildings. The Convention considered this item as belonging within the competence of the Board of Managers. 9. Committee recommended to extend the recreation facilities for the old people. The Convention having received information that this is already in progress saw no need for specific action on this recommendation. 10. Committee recommended that depending on a salary-raise of the Supreme Officers, the salaries of the Superintendent of the Bethlen Home and of the Overseer of the Old Peoples’ Home be proportionally raised, too. The Convention unanimously accepted this recom­mendation, also the report of the Bethlen Home Committee in its entirety and expressed its appre­ciation for the Committee’s excellent work. 69. President Beky announced that he had appointed a Special Committee to prepare a Proclamation of the Con­vention to our Hungarian Brethren all over the world. Alex­ander Daroczy, who drafted the text, presented it to the Convention in Hungarian (Exhibit R). The Convention unanimously and with enthusiasm accepted the Proclamation and ordered its publica­tion. 70. The Rev. Imre Bertalan submitted a brief appeal to the leaders of the various American Hungarian Church groups to explore the new possibilities of greater unity the signs of Which so eminently manifested themselves at the present Convention (Exhibit S). The Convention unanimously adopted the text of the appeal and ordered its publication. 71. President Beky read greetings from the Rev. Janos Apostol, Brazil. 72. The motion made by Vice-President Borshy-Kerekes to make the Supreme Officers’ salary-raises effective as of July 1, 1968 was not acted upon because of lack of a second. 73. Upon recommendation by the Rev. Matthias Da­roczy the Convention unanimously granted release to all members of the Supreme Council from their official responsibilities for the past four years. 74. The Rev. Matthias Daroczy was unanimously elected Temporary Chairman of the Convention charged with the duty to conduct the election. 75.
