osztályának hivására szép számú közön­ség jelent meg november 4-én a Mary­land University Paterson Halijában, hogy emlékezzék a magyar művelődéstörténet egyik legfontosabb mértföldkövére és Ízelítőt adjon amerikai polgártársainknak fajtánk sok évszázados szellemi alkotá­saiból. Az amerikai himnusz hangjai után Pulvári Károly professzor az osztály el­nöke köszöntötte a vendégeket s olvasta fel az üdvözlő táviratokat. Felkérésére Ft. Irányi László atya, a Piarista Rend Főnöke, emelte fel bevezető imájával a lelkeket. Az ünnepély kiemelkedő és felejthetet­len eseménye Dr. Máday Béla hatalmas felkészültséggel összeállított és mindvégig lebilincselően előadott felolvasása volt. A pécsi egyetem alapításából kiindulva a hatévszázados magyar egyetemi okta­tás történetét sűrítette össze ragyogó felkészültséggel. Máday Béla, az American University tanára, vérbeli pedagógus, aki egy em­lékünnepély keretében sem feledkezik meg arról hogyan kell egy tudományos előadás száraz témáját egy-egy Ízesen előadott anekdotával vagy kitűnő humor­ral elejtett megjegyzéssel úgy fűszerezni, hogy mindvégig ébren tartsa hallgatósága figyelmét. Máday propagandista is a szó legne­mesebb értelmében. Előadásában iskola­példát nyújtott arra, hogyan közölhetjük nem magyar származású hallgatóságunk­kal fajtánk kimagasló erényeit, képessé­geit és eredményeit anélkül, hogy az önmagasztalás visszataszító hibájába es­nénk vagy a környező népek fitymálása révén igyekeznénk magunk fontosságát kihangsúlyozni. Bár sokan tanulnák ezt el tőle. Előadását a közönség szűnni nem aka­ró tapssal jutalmazta. Dr. Béky Zoltán záróimája méltóan illeszkedett bele az ünnepély emelkedett hangulatába. Az ünnepély után a közönség átvonult az egyetem könyvtárába ahol Dr. Bakó Elemér és az egyetem egyik könyvtárosa röviden ismertették azt az ügyesen össze­válogatott kiállítást mely a magyar egye­temi oktatás hatszáz éves történetét volt hivatva dokumentálni. For the reasons stated above I have resigned my position as National Secre­tary of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America, effective Febru­ary 1, 1968 and have placed the matter into the hands of the proper authori­ties for further action according to the By-laws of our Federation. I take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to my fellow officers, the staff, field force and branch man­agers — with whom I tried to serve God, our faith and country and the interests and progress of our beloved institution, according to the best of my ability — for their cooperation and for the respect and regard shown me, my office and my work. As I tried in the past nearly four decades to serve our Lord and Savior, His people, and work for the freedom and welfare of our scattered race. I shall try to do so in the future also. I shall try my best to defend, serve the cause, and help the progress of all our institutions, among them our own Hun­garian Reformed Federation. May God bless my friends, co- workers, the Federation and its mem­bership throughout the country; may He help us to build a brighter and happier future to His glory.
