ITEMS OF INTEREST THIRTY YEARS — IN PERSPECTIVE By PAUL ST. MIKLOSSY Thirty years ago ... in 1936, when our Federation was celebrating its 40th anniversary, upon the direction of the new Field Secretary, the newly appointed District Managers ... all six of them . . . (myself included) took to the road with little experience, as far as a sweeping membership drive was concerned, but with never abating faith and confidence in our course of action, ever keeping in mind the great cause we were representing .... our Hungarian Reformed Federation of America. We had come through the early years of the depression very much alive because of our untiring efforts and unwaivering dreams of building an even greater organization for our Hungarian people. The depression was still with us in 1936, but we went our collective ways and worked far into the nights planning our strategy, traveling into every known community where Hungarians lived. Our hard work finally began to show results. Our membership grew. Our assets increased. We came through the depression with flying colors! Of the original group in the picture below, only the Rev. George E. K. Borshy, past field secretary and past president, and I, the present treasurer, are the only two who have lived to see and celebrate our Federation’s 70th anniversary. Of the two of us still here, only I am in active service. Thirty years — how fast they have flown by! Three decades of fraternal service! . . . How grateful I am to the Lord for His sustenance, to our Federation for the opportunity of giving service L. to r.: f Nicholas M. Kovács, t Dr. Julius Melegh, t Rev. Emil Nagy Sr., Rt. Rev. George E. K. Borshy, Sec'y, t Michael B. Tusai, Paul St. Miklossy, t Gustav Kovács.
