10 FRATER NI TY JOSEPH KECSKEMETHY: ITEMS OF INTEREST ABOUT OUR YOUNGER SET Suzanne H. Paal, daughter of Mrs. Helen Paal and the Rev. Julius Paal of Munhall, Pennsylvania, has attained the presidency of Kappa Delta Epsilon, National Honorary Professional Education Sorority. Miss Paal served as vice president last year and was re-elected to her new position in the Alpha Kappa Chapter. A senior in the School of Education at Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, Pa., she is a dean’s list student. As president of the Alpha Kappa Chapter of K. D. E., Miss Paal’s activities are many and varied. The sorority itself was founded on March 25, 1933, at the invitation of the Executive Council of Kappa Phi Kappa, National Professional Education Fraternity, in Washington, D. C. Today, there are 44 active college chapters of Kappa Delta Epsilon, exclusive of the alumni and graduate national organizations. K. D. E. recognizes through membership outstanding students preparing to enter the teaching profession and those actively engaged in this area. As a professional group, it is an active association in which students of serious purpose undertake projects of service to the campus and the community. The causes of education are fostered by a spirit of fellowship, high standards of scholastic attainment, and professional ideals among its members. In conjunction with her duties as president, Miss Paal was sent to Illinois State University, in Normal, Illinois, on October 29-31, as Duquesne University’s representative to the North-Central Regional Convention of K. D. E. She was accompanied by Dr. Helen Kleyle, coordinator of Education at Duquesne. The conclave was designed to explore administrative problems, as well as new developments in the field of education. During her four years at Duquesne University, Suzanne has participated in other educational organizations, such as the P. S. E. A. and A. C. E. She is also involved in folk-dancing at the University, and is taking additional credits in music as a performing art. In the community of Homestead (Pennsylvania), she bowls with the Turners’ League at Forrest Lanes. Miss Paal has recently completed her student internship on the intermediate team at Miller School, which is located in the Pittsburgh Hill District. Upon graduation in June, Suzanne intends to work on a Master of Arts degree at the University of Pittsburgh.
