2 FRATERNITY JOSEPH KECSKEMETHY: ITEMS OF INTEREST It is always a great pleasure to learn of the scholastic achievements of our second and third generation members. — We take this opportunity to introduce FRANK SONYE, age 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sonye, 3187 Colorado Avenue, Lorain, Ohio, a senior at the Lorain High School, and member of the Hungarian United Church of Christ, who has earned great honors by being named among the top ten per cent of all the entrants in the nationwide Westinghouse Talent Search. TOPS IN SCIENCE Frank Sonye For his project, Frank built a device to accurately measure and record the amount of recalescence and decalescence in steel, that is, the change in the crystalline structure of the steel which results in the transformation of heat into energy and of energy into heat. His project related to the field of metalography — the study of the crystalline structure and makeup of metals. On the basis of his performance, the Westinghouse Science Foundation has recommended Frank to all the colleges in the country as highly deserving of a science scholarship. His choice was the General Motors Institute for the completion of his studies. Not only has Frank achieved excellence in things scientific, having won first prize in the Mohican District Science Fair at Ashland, Ohio, a rating of Excellent in the Ohio State Science Fair at Columbus, and membership in the Ohio Junior Academy of Scientists, but he is also an accomplished musician. He has been accompanist for the High School Choir and has also played in the marching and concert bands for four years. He has been active in scout work, in radio and math clubs, and in the National Honor Society of which he was vice president. Among his other interests and hobbies are swimming, scuba diving and water skiing, and building radio-controlled airplanes and boats. As we congratulate Frank Sonye on his successes thus far, let his achievements serve as an example to other young members of our Federation. And we urge them to work with determination and diligence so they, too, can make fine careers for themselves and to continue to uphold the good reputation of our Hungarian people throughout the nation.
