4 FRATERNITY MORAL REARMAMENT THROUGH CHRISTIAN EDUCATION By LÁSZLÓ L. ESZENYI The recent ruling of the Supreme Court on the school prayer brought a storm of indignation from every corner of the nation. However difficult it is to believe that laws enacted by the pilgrim fathers can be so miserably misinterpreted by some of their late successors, we do not intend to join the ranks of angry and lamenting fellow-citizens with our present article. It is our strong belief that much more can be profited from a careful analysis of our religious education and from a sincere examination of our conscience. While we fully disagree with any legal decree which de­creases or eliminates school exercises aiming to build up ethics and morality in the pupils, we find much more regretful the fact that for millions of American children school prayer and bible reading was just about the only occasion where they heard about the Supreme Being and the Christian morale which still is and shall remain the main bearing pillar of our society. And those few minutes of daily devotions were utterly short to raise dedicated and ardent defenders of the Western way of life presently engaged in a life and death struggle with the Com­munist ideology. In full recognition of the fact that the out­come of this contest will determine the fate of mankind for centuries, Russian education is coupled with ideological indoc­trination serving one single purpose: the creation of the Bolshevik Man. In our predominantly Christian community we are busy to eliminate the last dim chance for many to get some moral armament for this fight. Academically speaking, there are three possible places where our youth might receive its moral and religious training: HOME, SCHOOL and CHURCH. I purposely mentioned HOME first, because according to age-old and generally accepted belief, the personal life and example of the parents leaves the most lasting impression on the souls of the young generation.
