HUNGARY. — A little noticed, but unfortunate change in United States foreign policy has just taken place. Last month, for the first time since the heroic Hungarian revolution, the credentials to the United Nations General Assembly of the representatives of the “butchers of Budapest” were accepted on the same basis as those of other members of the U. N. Previously the Assembly, as a result of United States objections, had refused to rule on this issue. Now, in its drive to “do business” with Khrushchev, the Administration has relaxed its former stand, based on justice. I cannot see how we can keep alive the flame of freedom, for which thousands of Hungarian revolutionaries gave their lives, by surrender to those who brought the darkness to Hungary.
