Miklossy, May 1, 1963 Treasurer PROBLEMS ABOUT SOCIAL SECURITY Question: What must a person receiving social security benefits do if he earned over $1200 in 1962? Answer: Anyone entitled to social security benefits who earned over $1200 in 1962 and who was under 72 in ANY month of the year must file an annual report of his earnings with the Social Security Administration. Quuestion: How does a person report earnings of over $1200 in a year to the Social Security Administration? Answer: By completing a simple “annual report of earnings” form. This form (called Form OA-C 777) can be obtained from any Social Se­curity District Office. The social security office will also help a person complete the annual report form if he wishes. Question: When must a report of 1962 earnings of over $1200 be made to the Social Security Administration? Answer: By April 15, 1963. Question: Is there a penalty imposed on a social security beneficiary if he fails to report earnings of over $1200 in 1962 by April 15, 1963? Answer: A social security beneficiary who earned over $1200 in 1962 may forfeit an additional one month’s benefit payment to himself for failure to report his earnings to the Social Security Administration by April 15, 1963. Question: Why does a social security beneficiary who earned over $1200 in 1962 have to estimate his expected earnings for 1963 also? Answer: His estimate of earnings expected for 1963 will be used to determine how much he can be paid in social security benefits during this year.
