FRATERNITY 5 BETHLEN HOME ALUMNUS AT DEDICATION (Reprinted from “The Latrobe Bulletin” — Sept. 4, 1962) An alumnus of the New Bethlen Home for the Aged and Young, Ligonier, returned from his sophomore studies at Princeton University yesterday to take part in the dedication ceremonies of a new structure. Peter Kurtz, a graduate of Ligonier High School and a former resident of the New Bethlen Home, praised the entire Hungarian or­ganization for the outstanding qualities it provides its residents. Lauds Home “I shall never forget this place as long as I live, and I hope I shall set a good example for the Bethlen Home as I take my posi­tion in this troubled world”, he told the gathering of more than 600 persons. The student, 19, is representative of the goal set by the Bethlen organization in providing education and rearing for youngsters it ac­commodates. Peter came to the United States from Brazil with his family in 1957 and studied at the Bethlen Home for two years prior to entering Ligonier High School. Upon leaving the secondary school, he was offered a $2,700 scholar­ship at Princeton, where he is now enrolled. Affluent in four languages, he is now studying Russian dialects at Princeton and has a good knowledge of four other languages. Eyes Diplomatic Field Majoring in politics, he has sights set on the diplomatic field as an international correspondent. He is building up his work around the diplomatic field, holding a position as a reporter with the Trenton Evening Times during the summer. He writes during his vacation to help alleviate the cost of his college education, and currently is reporting university news to various Princeton area publications. Recently, because of his high average grades, he was awarded a $500 grant by the Wall Street Journal. Peter expects to take his sound journalistic knowledge and lin­guistic abilities back to Brazil after graduating from Princeton. His father is a painter, who is employed by the Hungarian Re­formed Federation of America as section manager in Bethlehem, Pa. There are three more children in the family.
