FRATERNITY 9 400 Miles For A Dog •k ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Boy Finds His Pet With Christmas Bus Fare BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - A boy traveled homeward today with his dog after searching 400 miles by himself to find the pet. Alex Borsi of Jersey City was given bus fare by his father, Jeno, as a Christmas present so he could search for Wanderer, a pet left with friends when the Borsi family moved recently from Buffalo. After talking with police in suburban Tonawanda, Alex, 13, spent Thursday night on a table at police headquarters, with a patrolman’s coat as a blanket. Newspapers and radio stations told of the search, and ALEX BORSI With Wanderer "Wanderer" was located yesterday morning. The dog had been noisy, and the family with whom he was left turned him loose on a country road. A woman who adopted the dog notified police after hearing of the search. Alex, a seventh-grader, said he was “very happy” about finding his pet. He said the dog would have a large back yard in which to run and “will make an excellent watchdog.” The Borsis are Hungarians who fled their country during the 1956 uprising. ‘T don't see what's so unusual about it if you love a dog,” Alex said of his trip. Man’s genius has permitted him to create complex machines that have outmoded the horse and other animals in modern warfare, but there are today 4,000 dogs on active duty with the Army and Air Force. Although no longer used as combatants, dogs still have great military importance as messengers, scouts and sentries. In addition to their long and illustrious record as military comrades, dogs have also served man in numberless ways. A noted dog authority, C. C. “Tex” Fawcett, has uncovered some unusual facts which illustrate the dog’s versatility in serving man. Here are a few examples:
