2 FRATERNITY nations. Billions and billions of the American taxpayers’ money has already been spent and billions more will have to be “invested” in years to come in desperate attempts to avoid the final consequences of this blunder. The now defunct League of Nations, as a machinery set up to administer President Wilson’s genial brain-child, self-determination, was not willing to do more for Hungary after 1920 than has the United Nations since October 1956! On the fourth anniversary of the Budapest Rising, the Houston Chronicle, one of the most influential dailies in Texas, editorialized on this, what it termed the greatest disgrace of the 20th century. American statesmen, led by the late Senator William H. Borah, warned the nation of this, without being listened to, 30 years ago. Winston Churchill, in his book, “The Gathering Storm”, admitted in 1946 that the Treaty of Trianon and the destruction of Danubian unity of national spirit, was a cardinal tragedy. For four decades the American Hungarian Federation lost no opportunity in attempts to interest U. S. public opinion, constantly and systematically warning of the dangers inherent in Western neglect toward Eastern Europe. On this 40th anniversary, the Federation again calls attention to the gaping wounds of the Hungarian nation by publishing appropriate Christmas seals. You, too, can take an active part in disseminating these reminders by using Trianon seals on your envelopes throughout the year. In case you have not received your sheet of 64 seals through the courtesy of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America, please let us know and we shall be happy to oblige. BELA BACHKAI TELEGRAM SENT TO THE SECRETARY OF STATE We Americans of Hungarian origin are genuinely thankful for the efforts made in order to have the Hungarian Question placed on the agenda of the United Nations General Assembly. It is extremely useful to demonstrate to the newly admitted member nations that all Soviet masquerading as champions of independence and self-determination constitute shameless falsehoods and hypocrisy. African nations have to be told again and again of the brutal crushing of Hungary’s fight for freedom lest they side with the Soviet bloc in the U. X. Vigorous demands for carrying out the twelve-point U. X. Resolution can supply the best illustration of the Soviet falsehoods and it appears imperative to fully debate the Hungarian Question before proposals of the Soviets, especially that dealing with colonialism. We fervently hope that the discussion of Soviet interferenc.ee in Hungary may definitively open the eyes of the nerc African nations and thus they too could, vote in favor of the Western proposals aimed at liberating the captive European nations as well. Gratefully for your urgent consideration, American Hungarian Federation
