FRATERNITY 7 I held adjusting conferences with our clerks and with our officers. I participated in the organizing conferences of our districts, where I could meet our fellow workers and could give them requested information. And here I have to emphasize the extreme importance of the latter conferences, because no amount of correspondence can take the place of personal meetings for either those who work in the field offices or in the home office. WORK ORDER As overseer of the home office, I have supervised the observation of the rules of administration that developed during the past three decades, and I can bear witness with a clear conscience that in that area, with the professional guidance of my fellow officers and with the help of reforms toward more efficient handling of matters, our employees finished their work punctually and in due time. No serious trouble ever developed, for when we discovered any signs, we prevented it with quick intervention and warning. The number and accomplishment of our office workers is sufficient for the time being to take care of our duties. However, if the increase in membership certificates and assets continues at the present rate, then in the near future a new employee, possibly employees, will be necessary. Such steps are always taken with the knowledge and sanction of the Supreme Council, according to the suggestion of the proper officers. DOCUMENTS, CLAIMS Together with the secretary, we have validated with our signatures every membership certificate that was issued by the Federation; similarly, both of our signatures are necessary on other contracts and agreements. In the cases of claims, I gave authorization to the auditor for remittance and to the treasurer for payment in each justified instance and countersigned every check that has been issued. The payments were punctual and the examiners of the Insurance Department of the District of Columbia found good evidence of this, as well as of the impeccable order of the bookkeeping and remitting, during their examination in the months of April and May of this year. REPORTS I made a detailed report on the activities of my office once a year to our Supreme Council at the regular meeting held during the first third of the year, where, on the basis of their examination, I received the dispensation in each instance. At the September meetings we usually make a verbal report rather than a written one and we mostly discuss our secretary’s plans for the following year, current events and the resolutions by the Board of the Bethlen Home that have been submitted for approval. In case of an urgent matter that would require the decision of the Supreme Council, we take care of that by correspondence. During the past four years there was no need for the summoning of extraordinary meetings.
