Fraternity-Testvériség, 1960 (38. évfolyam, 1-12. szám)
1960-05-01 / 5. szám
2 FRATERNITY to these meetings from all the Hungarian colonies of oar country from the Atlantic to the Pacific coast. Approximately 100-150 persons will attend the sessions or break bread together in the beautiful dining room of the Bethlen Home. This number will include not only the 97 official delegates but the advisory members, clerks, the press, representatives of other institutions and fraternals, as well as guests. While cordiality and good fellowship mark the convention, much serious work is to be done. In addition to the customary discussion of reports and adoption of new plans for underwriting and conserving new business and members, another very important piece of work will be the revision of the By-Laws. Amended only in spots during the last 25 years, the By-Laws need further amendments — all of which are dictated by time and the necessity to satisfy the new generations — as well as deletions, in certain instances, because of obsolescence. For example, the By-Laws, originally drawn up for a membership of 5,000-10,000, no longer are democratic enough to provide “percentage-wise adequate'” representation for our much larger membership. The present form of disproportionate representation must be changed and in its place a more suitable amendment drawn up — one that will satisfy the present requirements and serve the mutual benefit of the Federation and its entire membership. We are meeting fraternally, in brotherhood, at a time when there is world-wide tension and fear. But we shall not fall prey to doubt! Our motto is: “If God be with us, who can be against us?” Our foundations and faith are strong! Thus girded, we sincerely hope that with the help of the Almighty our earnest and sincere delegates will do their best to find the right path which, after a worth past, will lead, toward an even brighter and more progressive future!
