ESZENYI, Auditor INCREASE DUE IN SOCIAL SECURITY Question: Will the dependents of retired workers and the survivors of deceased workers also receive increases in the amounts of their social security payments? Answer: Yes. Dependents and survivors will also receive increases, but the $3.00 minimum does not apply to these beneficiaries. However, the maximum amount which may be paid to a family is raised from $200.00 to $254.00. This does not mean that every family will receive $254.00 a month or even that every family which formerly received the $200.00 family maximum will be automatically entitled to the $254.00. The actual maximum which may be paid in a specific case depends upon the average monthly earnings of the worker on whose account the benefits are based. If the average monthly earnings were $315.00 or more, the $254.00 maximum will apply, but if the average monthly earnings were less than $315.00, the new maximum family payments will be approximately 80% of the insurede worker’s average monthly earnings.
