His work, a singing with his hand.” (Sidney Lanier) EDE ZATHURECZKY 1903—1959 It was with a deep sense of personal pleasure that I started to write the article on EDE ZATHURECZKY for my series on American Hungarians of whom we have cause to he proud. Then — breaking the melody —• came the news of his un­timely death. The string has snapped. The jubilant music has ended in my sold. At long last the struggle to integrate love of freedom, which was bred in him as a Hungarian, and devotion to a Hungary now destitute of freedom, had proven beyond, even his skilled musician's touch. The chord of life had been broken by the dissonance. We, and all the world, have lost a great musician, a noble man and a true Hungarian.
