FRATERNITY 11 WHAT IS CO-ORDINATED HUNGARIAN RELIEF? Out of the multitude of Hungarian relief movements which were called to life in a necessarily haphazard fashion after the sudden and unexpected Hungarian revolt, there has finally emerged a permanent Hungarian relief organization. This new national organization — Coordinated Hungarian Relief, Inc. — has been created through the united efforts of all major Hungarian organizations in the United States. Its wellfare goals are to: 1) Assist individuals, especially the sick and the aged, in Hungary. 2) Bring aid to those who fled to neighboring countries. 3) Provide guidance and education to those who have come to the United States. 4) Maintain a standby relief organization for eventual emergencies. The program and financial statements of Coordinated Hungarian Relief are filed with the Advisory Committee on Voluntary Foreign Aid, an important department of the International Cooperation Administration. The national president of this relief service is Mr. Coloman Revesz. Mr. Revesz is president of the William Penn Fraternal Association Vice presidents are: Rev. George E. K. Borshy of Washington, D. C., president of our Hungarian Reformed Federation, and Mr. Peter Suto of Bridgeport, Connecticut, who is president of the American Life Insurance Association. The honorary vice-chairmen are: Mrs. Bona Massey Dawson and Mrs. Jean Montgomery Riddell, both of Washington, D. C.; Mr. Luke E. Hart, Supreme Knight, Knights of Columbus, New Haven, Connecticut; Mr. Otto H. Rentner, president of Aid Association for Lutherans, Appleton, Wisconsin, and Mr. Joseph Szigeti of Palos Verdes Estates, California. Additional officers are: Mr. Emery Király, Treasurer; Mr. László Eszenyi, Comptroller; Rev. Gabor Csordás and Rev. Ladislaus Irányi, Organizing Directors; Mr. Francis D. Hamory, Secretary; Mr. Bela C. Maday, Executive Secretary; Mr. Aloysius Falussy, Legal Counsel, and Mr. Bela Bachkai, Coordinator. It is hoped that many of the relief organizations that came into being after the Hungarian revolt will see the value of and need for a permanent national Hungarian relief organization, and will pool their financial and voluntary resources to become chapters of CHR. The national organization has been incorporated under the laws of the District of Columbia. It has been approved by the United States Treasury Department as a tax exempt organization operating for charitable and educational purposes. Under this exemption, contributions are deductible for income tax purposes. It is hoped that Americans of Hungarian descent will recognize the need and the advantages of this relief service. HELP US SO THAT WE MAY BE ABLE TO HELP OTHERS! Bela Maday
