FRATERNITY 17 That is, the member shall pay $121.80 on January 1, 1955, in order to acquire a $1,000 Twenty Year Endowment certificate dated January 1, 1950, instead of his old Whole Life certificate. Assuming that this member originally held a Twenty Year Endowment certificate and wants to change over to the Whole Life plan, then the $121.80 difference will be credited to his new Whole Life certificate dated back to January 1, 1950. If a member desires the change of his plan as of the date of change, he shall pay the dues according to his attained age at the time of his application for such a change. Change to a Higher Amount of Insurance Upon reading the first article of this series, a good many of our members should think of raising the amount of their insurance. There are too many with a coverage of only $1,000 or even under this amount. Without repeating our opinion about this kind of security, we will rather use this opportunity to explain how the amount of insurance should be increased intelligently. If the plan suits to the insurance needs of the member — and a very careful consideration has to be given to this point also — all he has to do is to increase the amount of his existing certificate. If the total amount of his insurance, together with the planned increase, will not exceed $2,000 and the member is not older than 35, he should fill out a Non-Medical application form for the amount of the increase. In other cases, where the amount of insurance is intended to be changed to a higher amount, the member must pass a medical examination, since the increase in the insurance in force comes under the same rule as a new admittance with regard to the health requirements. Examples: 1. Member of age 30 holding a certificate of $1,000 intends to increase his coverage to $2,000. Medical examination is not required. Fill out Non-Medical application for $1,000 and indicate old number and the intention. 2. Member of age 30 holding a certificate of $1,000 intends to increase same to $3,000. Medical examination is required even though he is under 35, since his total insurance in force will exceed $2,000. Case must be handled on Medical form. 3. Member of age 50 holding a certificate of $500 wants to change the amount to $1,000. Even though his total holding of insurance with the Federation will stay under $2,000, he must pass medical examination, since he is over 35 at the time of his application. Of course, the amount of insurance can be lowered also. Member who wishes to do so shall notify the home office, possibly through the respective branch manager, indicating the number of his certificate and the amount he intends to keep in force in the future. Member pass 55 cannot apply for an increase in the amount of his certificate, because any amounded added to the existing insurance has to be regarded as a new admittance which is limited in our Federation to the age of 55.
