6 TESTVÉRISÉG attributes the origination of Pan-Slav Expansionism to Ivan the Terrible (1530-1584), and points out that in the course of the last four centuries the Russians have conquered 168 different peoples and tribes.6) A recent government publication places the number of ethnic groups sub- jagated by the successive Russian regimes at two hundred.7) The only difference distinguishing the Russia of today from the Russia of the Tsar is the existence of the unholy wedlock entered into by Russia and international radical Socialism in the revolution of 1917. It was strictly a marriage of convenience. It is of the utmost importance that we do not fail to see that the seeming acceptance of Marxist ideology did by no means mark a change of heart on the part of Russian leadership. Their pretension to a Marxist ideology is purely incidental. It is a camouflage put on and cleverly manipulated simply for the promotion of their relentless drive for Slav 6) William C. PÖLTENBERG ERNŐ (1813—1849) Magyarul egyáltalában nem tudott és semmiféle vérségi kapcsolat sem fűzte a magyar nemzethez, mégis a magyar ügy vértanúja lett a 36 éves, müveit és tehetséges fiatal katona. Bécsben született, ahol apja tekintélyes és gazdag ügyvéd volt, akinek Galiciában nagyobb birtokai voltak. Mint az akkori idők tisztjei, ő is gyerekkorában adta magát a katonai pályára, amelyen a szokásos idő alatt a kapitányi rangig emelkedett a Sándor nagyhercegről elnevezett osztrák ezredben. 1848-ban Bécsben szolgált, amikor azonban ezredét magyar földre küldték, ki nem deritett okok miatt ő is átállt a magyar ügy szolgálatába. A szabadságharc minden változatában résztvett és 1849 júniusában már mint tábornok szolgált. Először a kápolnai csatában tönt ki, ahol huszárjaival több ágyuüteget megmentett a biztos elfogástól. Nagy sikerrel harcolt Esztergom mellett is, ahol az egyik osztrák tábornok egész seregét átszoritotta a Dunán. Buda ostromában nem vett részt, mert azt a parancsot kapja, hogy az ostromot, minden esetleges hátsó támadással szemben, Győr mellett álló seregével fedezze. A hadi szerencse mindaddig mellette volt, amig 1849 júliusában Haynau hatalmas fölénynyel biró serege meg nem verte Komárom mellett. De még ezután is voltak sikerei, főképen az oroszokkal szemben, akiket előbb Harsánynál, majd Miskolc mellett sikerült megvernie. Alacsony, vöröses hajú és bajuszu férfi volt, szép műveltséggel biró szelid ember, akit átlátszó becsületessége és nyugodt természete miatt mindenki szeretett. Nem egyszer hangoztatta, hogy csak a neve és a nyelve német, a szive azonban magyar, amely a szabadságért dobog. Nyuygodtan ment a halálba. Ő volt a legelső, akit tábornoktársával felakasztottak. Mielőtt az akasztófa alá állott, végignézett a gyalázatos halálra várakozó társain és ezek voltak az utolsó szavai: “Szép küldöttség megy az Istenhez a magyarok képviselőiében!” world domination. The masters of the Kremlin full well knew that by displaying their true colors they could do no proselyting outside of their own domains. So with a view to the promotion of their world-wide proselytizing, they appropriated an ideology with an international appeal in it. This is the sole reason why they talk of Communism, in which they have absolutely no faith, which they do not like, which they do not practice, and which they are ready to discard as soon as they hold safely in their grasp the victims whom they had succeeded in leading astray. That is also the reason why they call themselves a people’s democracy, and that is the reason of all the double talk they are forced to indulge in while spreading their net. Speaking at Pittsburgh, on January 26,1852, Kossuth aptly said: “Russian diplomacy is a sub- terreneous power, slippery as a snake. And when it has to come out in the broad daylight, it watches to the left, when it looks to the right.” Open-mindedness and singleness of purpose are human traits not indigenous to the soil of despot- ridden lands.
