4 TESTVÉRISÉG "FOR THE WORLD - BROTHERHOOD - ADELPHOCRACY OF MANKIND" A DECLARATION By the American Hungarian Reformed Ministerial Association and by the American Hungarian Reformed Church - Elders Conference While frustrated man vainly seeks “The City of Man”, we ministers and elders, gathered together in “the beloved fellowship” within the walls of the newly dedicated Hungarian Calvinist Cathedral in Cleveland, do seek “The City of God.” The predicament of modern man is of tragic proportions: with self-destructive frenzy he seeks his own annihilation. Mankind, divided into two armed camps, girded with atomic weapons, is ready for the final battle of Armageddon. The woe and folly of the nations is ours too, we are ready to accept responsibility for bearing the cross of all men. The way of salvation must be sought in the creation of world-brotherhodd: We call it the adelphocracy of all nations. We, American Hungarian Calvinists, however, feel first and foremost, the utter despondency of our native land. Who will speak for our rejected brethren, if not we American Hungarians, who by the special grace of God gained our full-fledged citizenship in this beloved country of ours? We plead for the alert good-will of the freedom-loving and freedom- guarding Western World. The prostrate, tragic woe of the Hungarian people is a foreboding danger sign to our own imperiled way of life. Behind the “Iron Curtain” and the D. P. camps of the Western countries the Hungarian people are ruthlessly condemned to utter destruction and hopeless annihilation. The Moscow-installed governments of the satellite countries wage a war of wanton cruelty against any man, who in the stature of his human dignity claims his God-given rights and lifts his eyes with hope toward high heaven. The Hungarian Mindszenty and Ordass, the Bulgarian Petkov and countless more must perish because they dared to challenge the voice of Moscow. The Red agents of the Kremlin are not satisfied any more with the ruthless extermination of entire social classes, villages, cities, nay, even solidly rooted minorities, but aim to poison and transform according to nihilistic patterns the social-cultural and religio-spiritual structures of whole nations. Not only isolated churches and congregations are wiped off the face of the map, but the trucated bodies of our Hungarian Calvinist Church disappear without the trace of remem- berance. The blood of the Hungarians, the blood of the subjugated peoples cry out to high heavens. The Church must not hide any more behind the shibbolets of pacifist slogans. The army of God is rapidly becomming distinct from the hordes of atheistic communism. Even the fellow- travelers are beginning to realize that there is no workable compromise. Christs word calls us to definite decision: “Who is not with me is against me.” “Let the Church be the Church.” Let the Church boldly proclaim its faith and with steadfast courage shoulder the existential consequences of its confessions!! God is not dead: God will not lose the final battle. For us his severeign will is binding reality!!! For the preservation of our American heritage - the American way of Life, for the liberation of all the enslaved peoples of the world including our suffering Hungarian brethren, for the world - brotherhood - adelphocracy of mankind, we American Hungarian Calvinists, therefore, “pledge our lives, fortunes and sacred honor.” For this worthy cause, we as the consecrated instruments of God, are ready to use the strong weapon of our faith, knowling that “to God alone belongs the Glory!!! Ellentétes lökések nyomása szerint hömpölyögnek habjai; dagály és apály váltják fel egymást és e váltakozás sok szenvedéssel jár, úgy egyénileg, mint nem- zetileg. De mintha egy megingatlanul szilárd kés volna kinyújtva a birkózó elemek, a kaotikus anyag és a szertehuzó munkások felett, a nagy nemzeti problémák történelmi kényszerüségü ereje egy végeredmény kerékvágásba tereli a legellentétesebb szándékokat; a vakbuzgó reakció és a felcsigázott türelmetlenség, az önző nagyravágyás és az önzetlen hazafiság, az elbizakodott hatalom nyomása és a szabadságszeretet ellentállása, a számitgató hideg éttelem és a nem számitó meleg érzelem, ész és szív, erény és bűn, siker és bukás végeredményben mind közrehatnak az oly eszme diadalához, amely a történelem logikájának szülöttje... * * * * Azonban megtörténik, hogy (a mint emlitém) apály fordul elő a történelem folyamának hömpölygésében; megfogyatkozik az önbizalom, mely a nemzetek legnagyobb ereje és legfőbb erénye, és e megfogyatkozás megrendíti a hitet a nemzeti akarat álhatatosságának hatalmában; nagy szerencsétlenség ez, de az emberi gyarlóság következése. Én nem ismerek nemzetet, melynek történelme mindig ment maradt volna az önbizalomban megfogyatkozás csapásától. Nagy szükségük van ilyenkor az idegedző példák bátorító tanulságára, hogy ez erkölcsi betegségből kigyógyuljanak. Ezeknek hatályos gyógyszerül szolgálnak a bátorító példák tanulságai, azoknak pedig óvszerül, a kiken a betegség még erőt vett.
