TESTVÉRISÉG 23 SHINING SHADOWS Keep well "Federalion"-ed! It sounds rather well, but upon examination we begin to question its grammatical correctness. By “well Federation”-ed, I mean quite simply that you should keep yourself well protected by our Reformed Federation policies. Why? Well, first of all because the Federation has faith in things money cannot buy. Faith in our orphans at the Bethlen Home in Ligonier. Penna. Faith in the students formerly at Franklin and Marshall College, Bloomfield College, and lately in those at Elmhurst... a faith made manifest by generous student-aid gifts to its college-attending members. Yes, these and others! cannot be measured in the simple decimal terms of dollars and cents! Furthermore, the Federation has a deep respect for the “past.” Last December this was evidenced by the Federation’s ardent participation in making possible the launching of a Liberty Ship bearing the revered name of Louis Kossuth, the greatest of all Hungarian patriots The Feedration’s deep respect for the immediate past was further shown only a few short weeks ago in the City of Toledo, Ohio where the dignitaries of the Federation gathered to pay final tribute at the bier of the Grand Old Man of the Federation: STEPHEN MOLNÁR. And finally ,the Federation has an interest in the new — particularly in ideas. The Federation has pioneered scholarly articles and books on things both Hungarian and American. It was first to establish a Bethlen Home for the orphaned and the aged. The Federation showed sagacious foresight in erecting its headquarters in the future hub of the world: Washington, D. C. It has evidenced rare intelligence in the publication of an up-to-date series of photographs of its men and women in the armed services. Yes, it pays to be “well Federation”-ed — for both you and your friends. HAPPINESS. Happiness is a by-product of service. If you seek happiness directly, it will escape you. If you would have happiness you must loyally do those things which you are most capable of accomplishing. Happiness comes only by the indirect route. Happiness is not to be found at Valley Forge, but years later in a budding republic. Happiness is not found in the tedious task of blending colors on a huge canvas, but in the finished “Ecce homo” of Michael Munkácsy. You must consecrate yourself to the task at hand and keep on striving until there sweeps over you the deep satisfaction of a task well done. And then you will experience the exaltation of a Munkácsy gazing upon his masterpiece, the happiness of a Béla Bartók playing his own glorious compositions, or the happiness of a Louis Kossuth riding the high seas on a USS Mississippi to the “home of the brave and the land of the free.” I WONDER. If doing a good deed anonymously is not inlike dropping a rubber-band off the Kossuth Bldg, and waiting for the echo... If Christianity is like a blue print with the very few Christian draftsmen being able to read it! WORK. Here is a quotation from Kahlil Gibrau well worth remembering: “Work is love made visible. And if you cannot work with love but only with distaste, it is better that you should leave your work and sit at the gate of the temple and take alms of those who work with joy.” Stephen Sziarto Columbus, Ohio March, 1944 PÁLYÁZAT TISZTVISELŐI ÁLLÁSOKRA Egyesületünk Alapszabályainak 35. pontja értelmében ezennel pályázatot hirdetünk az 1944 junius 5-ik napján, Ligonierben, Pa., kezdődő közgyűlésünk által betöltendő központi tisztviselői állásokra, úgymint: I.
