OCTOBER, 1949 'Chanksgíöíng As Thanksgiving Day draws near, we pause to take inventory of our blessings and give thanks for them. But to be a vital force in our lives, thanksgiving must be the constant atmosphere in which we live. Even in the hour when the cross loomed before Him, Jesus “took the cup and gave thanks”. And Paul in spite of stonings, beatings, shipwrecks, and imprisonments, wrote to his fellow Christians that they should be “giving thanks always for all things unto God the Father”. Three centuries ago the American Pilgrims, whose numbers had been decimated by sickness, the rigors of winter and the Indians, gave thanks to God for His guidance and protection, as they established homes in the wilderness. In these times there are three enduring blessings for which we should return thanks: The priceless heritage God has given us through men and women of former generations who labored and prayed; the glorious opportunity of working with Christ; hope of the fulfillment of Christ’s promise, “It is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom”.
