SEPTEMBER, 1947 On Gratitude It is strange that we take for granted so much of what we cherish, as if it would'be ours for always. It is not that we grudge the tribute; it is only that in our absorption in the every day routine we postpone the word of praise forgetting that there are such things as time and change. “So wTe leave our regard for our friends unspoken, gratitude for kindness unexpressed, the deed undone which might have made fellowship fragrant and memory a sacrament.” We so often save the kindly courtesy which might have meant so much to those we care for until it is too late and in place of fragrant memory have only regret.
