NOVEMBER. 1943 Stewardship of Personality The first obligation of stewardship of the person is his own highest selfdevelopment. He cannot possibly render the greatest service to his fellowmen unless he is fully equipped for that service. To be a good steward in relationship to others, involves the highest development of the personality of the individual. The person sins most against his day and generation when he fails to make the most of himself. The Christian steward will regard his body as a priceless gift: the home of his spirit and the instrument for performing his daily task. The foundations for a successful life, for mental alertness, for proper social relations, for happiness, for prosperity, all have their bases in physical health. The mind is the superlative gift of God to man. Here man is the superior of all other creatures. He can fulfil his stewardship by pursuing the best cultivation of his own mind: through continuous study and reading, by association with other clean, healthy minds; by other phases of mental and spiritual cultivation to be found in the realm of music, art, travel, etc. The person never escapes his stewardship at this point. Inescapable at this point in the consideration of a Christian steward is the fact that man never rises to his highest mental capacity until he has learned to think God’s thoughts after Him. A person’s mind must be able to encompass the fullest significance of human personality in its relation to God and to man. Short of this the person fails to arrive at the full stature of Christian Stewardship.--------------□-------------BOARD OF HOME MISSIONS, The United Church of Canada Wesley Buildings, 299 Queen Street West, Toronto 2, Ont.
