January, 1939 J Am ÄitBtr I am Music. It is written in the ancient record that the morning stars sang together. Since that distant creative morning in the life of the world I have been a part of all things. When the wind whistled in the reeds by the lonely river, that was I. In the throbbing tramp of primitive man I was there. 1 have sent men to battle, soothed them in pain, consoled them in prison, carried their songs of love, glorified their love of country, purified and ennobled their religion. In a score of forms men have devised instruments by which to render me their homage. I have my own form and my own beauty; he who would know me must fit the form of his soul to mine. I do not change mine to fit his. I am a servant of age and of childhood, an unostrusive guest to glorify all who will receive me into tneir inner selves. I am Music.
