Examination, treatment and follow-up the condition of patients with agerRelated macular degeneration in county Vas György Bátor, András Zelkó, Eszter Kovács, Péter Rácz Markusovszky Teaching Hospital of County Vas, Szombathely, Department of Ophthalmology, Aim: To establish the percentage of all the patients treated and cared with age-related macular degeneration in the last 2 years at the Department of Ophthalmology in Markusovszky Hospital, and to introduce how successful the intravitreal drug treatment was in a group of patients with exudative AMD. Patients, methods: We examined in the population of aprox. 2600Ü0 in Vas county patients sufferring from macular degeneration at our ambulatorium. From the patients with exudative AMD 14 were involved in intravitreal ranibizumab treatment, we studied particularly the objective (fundus examination, fluorescein angiography, followed up Spectralis HRA+OCT [Heidelberg retina angiography + optic coherence tomography]) and subjective (visual acuity, metamorphopsy) disorders in them. Results: In 2008-2009 at the out-patients’ department of ophthalmology in Markusovszky Hospital 28798 patients were examined in 62323 attendance, out of them 2.44% suffered from age-related macular degeneration, the therapy of these patients involved 3% of all the capacity of the out-patients’ department. The mean age of the patients with macular degeneration was 72.67 years of age, the female-male rate was 3.6:1. From the patients who attended our out-patients’ department 35% was aged between 40 and 65 years, in 3% of them was detectable any form of AMD. 31% of all patients was older than 65 years, 10.6% of them where treated with macular degeneration. The patients over 80 years of age composed 6.4% of all, the rate of AMD was 13.4% in them. The mean age of the 14 patients, who received intravitreal drug (ranibizumab) treatment was 73.3 years. The mean number of injections per patient was 2.8. The initial best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was meanly 0.49, however at the end of the follow up period became 0.62. Discussion: The number of patients with age-related macular degeneration increased in the ambulance in the last years, partly due to the extended diagnostic options of the new OCT device. With the administration of intravitreal anti-VEGF drug we reached 0.20 increase in visual acuity during the two years’ follow-up period. The role of proteolytic enzymes in the normal and abnormal re-epithelization of the cornea following trauma or laser surgery - Bjerrum Lecture 2009 András Berta University of Debrecen, Department of Ophthalmology Based on experiments and clinical data we developed a molecular model to explain the mechanisms involved in corneal re-epithelization. Abnormally high levels of plasmin after alkali burn of the cornea, as suggested by Berman et al. can result in the generation of relatively high level of “uncoupled domains”, which in turn competing with intact fibronectin molecules can prevent epithelial resurfacing. As described by Yamada et al. in other systems and shown by Nishida et al. in corneal epithelial cell cultures, synthetic peptides based the cell-binding region of fibronectin can prevent epithelial cell Előadáskivonatok / Abstracts
