141. évfolyam (2004) Personal recollections on István Györffy, the internationally famed contactologist VÉSSEY M. OPTITON LP., Budapest Györffy might be called the last polyhistor of the 20th century. Besides his worldwide reputation in the field of ophthalmology, he was outstanding for his technical genius, his artistic flower-photographs, his numismatic and ethnographic collections, and his ability as a gardener. Felkutatták a korabeli műszereket, műtéti és kezelési módszereket, a megjelent publikációkat és a két neves szakember fontosabb szakmai tevékenységének dokumentumait. A beszélgetés közben ezeknek a dokumentumoknak a fotóit is bemutatva kívánunk hozzájárulni a korábbi kelet-magyarországi szemorvoslás pontosabb történetéhez. Emil Oláh and Aladár Altorjay, two distinguished ophthalmologists from Gyula: reminiscences of a 92-year-old “eye-witness” Pelle Zs., Sallai Á., Soproni M., Kis-Pál Sándorné, Bánfi Barna Gyula Members of the present medical staff of the ophthalmic ward of the Gyula hospital, with the help of the librarian and of a sprightly former operating-theatre assistant, “Aunt Annie”, present reminiscences on two distinguished ophthalmologists, Emil Oláh and Aladár Altorjay. The authors have researched the surgical instruments and treatment methods of the period, as well as the published papers and documents concerning the two former members of staff. During the video they also present photographs which help to present a fuller historical picture of the work of the ophthalmic profession in eastern Hungary.
