141. évfolyam (2004) The relations between Hungarian and Romanian societies of ophthalmology in the last fourteen years Benőne Carstocea, Daniela Selaru Bucharest, Romania After reorganisation of the Romanian Society of Ophthalmology in its actual structure, beginning with 1990 there was a permanent cooperation with Hungarian Ophthalmological Society, consisting by the participation of the Hungarian ophthalmologists at our National Congresses, with presented scientific papers, lectures and practical demonstrations; the Romanian ophthalmologic residents took advantage of scholarships in Eye Clinics from Hungary. The introduction of ultrasound phacoemulsification, a new technique in University Eye Clinics in Bucharest and in other Romanian cities, was done with direct support and practical participation of ophthalmologic colleagues from Budapest and Pécs. The Hungarian-Romanian collaboration in ophthalmology field is a good example, which should be followed in all medical specialities. A magyar és román szemészeti társaság kapcsolata az elmúlt tizennégy évben Benőne Carstocea, Daniela Selaru Bukarest, Románia A Román Szemészeti Társaság, jelenlegi formájába történő újjászervezése után, 1990 óta folyamatos együttműködést tart fenn a Magyar Szemorvostársasággal. A kapcsolat részeként magyar szemészek tudományos előadásokkal és gyakorlati bemutatókkal vesznek részt Román Nemzeti Kongresszusokon. A román szemészeti rezidensek ösztöndíjasokként a magyarországi szemészeti klinikákon szereztek tapasztalatokat. Az ultrahangos phacoemulsificatio mint új technika bevezetése a bukaresti egyetemi szemészeti klinikákon és más román városokban a budapesti és pécsi szemészkollégák közvetlen támogatásával és gyakorlati részvételével történt. A szemészet területén kibontakozó magyar-román együttműködés követendő példa az összes orvosi szakma számára. History of Filatov’s School of Ukrainian pediatric ophthalmology N. F. Bobrova, T. A. Melikov Filatov Institute of Eye Diseases and Tissue Therapy of Ukrainian Academy of Medical Science, Odessa, Ukraine The pediatric ophthalmology department in Ukrainian Filatov Institute of Eye Diseases was founded by academician V.P. Filatov in 1946. Since that time to our days the department has been working as the Ukrainian centre of the most severe congenital and acquired eye pathology in children from their birth to 18 y/o. The main trends of Ukrainian pediatric ophthalmology centre’s work are:- Penetrating keratoplasty problem elaborating, especially in infants (professor S. A. Barhash - the first head of the department in 1946-1975).- Improvement of congenital cataracts diagnostics and surgery.- Development of congenital glaucoma diagnostics and surgical treatment (professor I.
