124 Instruction to Authors Communications can be submitted in Hungarian, German or English with a Hungarian and English abstract in all three cases. The manuscript with a copy should be sent to the Managing Editor: Dr. Piroska Follmann, I. Dept. Ophthalmology, Semmelweis University Medical School, Tömő u. 25-29., H- 1083 Budapest, Hungary. The text of the manuscript can be photoprinted, but the illus­trations should be sent in original duplicates. Articles must be typewritten on one side of a quarto paper, in double spacing with ample margins. On one page maximum 30 lines should be written, 60 letters to the line. The first page should contain the heading. In the heading the working place of the author(s), the name and title of the head of the institute (department) in brackets should be given. The title of the manuscript should be typed in letters. The family names and first names (not abbreviated) should be given without academic: or professional titles. The abstract should not exceed 15 typed line with headings: Aims/Background, Materials/Methods, Results. Conclusions. Case report's abstract may not be divided into headings. The key words (up to 5) should refer to the essentials of the article. The second page is the same as page one, in English. Com­munications in German must have abstract in the English too. From the third page the text of the publication should be given, in the following order: introduction, materials and methods, re­sult, and discussion sections, references and acknowledgments, legends for display items (Figures and Tables). Original com­munications should not exceed 10 pages, case reports and short communication 5 pages. References. At the end of the manuscript the number of the most essential cited references should not exceed 20. In the text the references should be quoted by numbers. The reference should be given as follows: Family name, initial(s) of first name(s) (without full-stop), between the name of authors comma, after the last name colon, full title or the quotation with Index Medicus, year of publications, semicolon, volume number, co­lon, number of the first and last page. e. g.: Hammer J., Németh J., Andriska M.: Title of reference. Szemészet, 1989:136:7-9.Ref­erences to books must include the name of the author(s). Title the name of editor(s) if any, title of the book, name of the pub­lisher, town where published, year, volume and page numbers. E. G.: Miller N. R.: Sparing of the macula. In: Miller N. R. ed. Tables. Each table should be on a separate sheet have a head­ing and should be numbered, using Roman numerals should synaptical and should complete the text. The title should be brief. Explanatory information essential to the understanding of the text should be typed at the bottom of the page. Illustrations. Photographic illustrations should be presented as glossy prints. Authors should be prepared to pay the cost of illustrations in colour. Line drawings should be simple and clearly arranged. Each figure and each plate should be numbered, us­ing Arabic numerals, in the order of mention in the text: figures should be clearly identified by number, name of the first author, running title and the top should be indicated with a pencil. At the end of the manuscripts full name of the first author and the mailing address should be given. One proof will be sent to the fist author, and should be read carefully for missprints. Responsibility for validation of proof lies with the author. Alterations to the original text should be kept to a minimum. The proof should be sent back with enu mcration of corrections and alterations and by indicating the place of corrections. The first author will be supplied with offprints.
