Untoward effects observed during prolonged chloroquine diphosphate (Delagil®) management applied to patients with rheumatoid arthritis, Sjögren syndrome, systhemic and chronic discoid lupus erythematodes are reported.

In these series severe, irreversibile retinopathy did not occur. This may be attributed to the low doses (maximum 250 mg/die) of the drug and to a thorough ophthalmic control every three months. Out of seventy-seven controlled patients in five cases (6.5%) mild retinopathy, in six cases (7.8%) corneal opacity, in one case pigment deposits on the corneal endothel in another posterior subcapsular opacities in the lens were registered. The treatment was discontinued in all patients with untoward effects except in cases with corneal opacity. A full visual acuity could be maintained in all treated patients with the measures.

Die im Laufe der Chloroquin-diphosphat (Delagil@)Dauerbehandlung von Rheumatoidarthritis, Sjörgen-Syndrom, systematischem und chronischem Discoid-Lupus erythematodes beobachteten Nebenwirkungen werden erläutert.

Im untersuchten Material kam — dank der niedrigen Dosis (maximal 250 mg/Tag) und der dreimonatlichen ophthalmologischen Kontrolle — keine schwere, irreversible Retinopathie vor. In 5 der 77 Fälle meldete sich milde Makulopathie (6,5%), in 6 Fällen (7,8%) eine Korneatrübung und in je 1 Fall Pigmentablagerung auf der Rückfläche der Kornea bzw. Linsentrübung auf dem hinteren Kortex. Abgesehen von der Korneatrübung wurde die Behandlung, insofern sonstige Komplikationen auftraten unterbrochen. Die totale Sehfunktion konnte bei allen Patienten des Krankenguts beibehalten werden.
