obtained by centrifugation. Mean urine amount was 500 ml after 30 minutes and 300 ml after 60 minutes. Blood sugar levels did not show significant changes in the normal patients at this concentration of glycerol, whereas in the diabetics a slight decrease may be observed after 30 and 60 minutes from the start of the infusion (Table 2). A mean increase of 25 mEq/L was found in natremia after 30 and 60 minutes. No significant changes were observed in kalemia. Experimental In Table 3 are illustrated the data obtained in twelve rabbits, given 2 g/Kg body weight of, respectively, 10% glycerol in saline (6 animals) and 10% glycerol+10% sodium ascorbate (6 animals), by microscopic examination of 0 30 60 90 120 Minutes TIME AFTER ADMINISTRATION Fig. 2. Mean effect of 0.8 g/Kg body weight of 10% Glycerol +10% Sodium Ascorbate on normal intraocular pressure in 7 patients submitted to cataract surgery. Infusion rate was 100 drops per minute. Maximum hypotensive effects were attained within 30 to 90 minutes from the start of the infusion. Mean serum osmolality levels are shown at the different time intervals.
