The eye-operation for buphthalmos did not make the patient worse but, knowing the syndrome, the intervention seems unnecessary in similar cases.

In the ophthalmic practice the opinion of the eye-specialist is often asked for in cases of buphthalmos and cataract. From the above-mentioned case it can drawn that the special ophthalmic examination carried out on infants and small children should be extended to the oculo-cerebro-renal syndrome first of all to the chromatographic urinanalysis. In this way such cases as may be poor in symptoms, the so-called “incomplete forms” of the syndrome can be also recognised at an early time.

Es wird über einen in Ungarn zum zweiten Male diagnostizierten und lange Zeit unter Beobachtung gehaltenen Fall von oculo-cerebro-renalem Syndrom berichtet. Obwohl die zwecks Lösung des Buphthalmus durchgeführte Augenoperation den Zustand des Kranken nicht verschlimmerte, scheint jedoch in Kenntnis dieses Syndroms der Eingriff in ähnlichen Fällen überflüssig zu sein.

In der ophthalmologischen Praxis wird der Ophthalmologe häufig wegen Buphthalmus and Katarakta um seine Meinung befragt. Aus dem eigenen Falle kann die Lehre gezogen werden, dass es ratsam ist im Säuglings- und Kleinkindalter die ophthalmologische Untersuchung auch auf die Symptome des oculo-cerebro-renalen Syndroms — vor allem auf eine chromatographische Harnuntersuchung — zu erstrecken. Dadurch können auch die eventuell symptomarmen Fälle, die sog. „inkompletten Formen“ des Syndroms früh erkannt werden.
