Egyed Ákos ERDŐVIDÉK SAJÁTSÁGOS ÖNIGAZGATÁSI TELEPÜLÉSRENDSZERÉNEK KIALAKULÁSA ÉS MŰKÖDÉSE A SZÉKELYEK MEGTELEPEDÉSÉTŐL 1876-1878-IG The Formation and Function of the Special Self-administration Settlement System of Erdővidék region from the Beginnings to 1876-1878 (Abstract) The present study examines the particularities in the development of the settlement system in Erdővidék region (a historic Transyilvanian region), trying to identify the cause for the development of two independent administrative units: Miklósvár district (Miklósvárszék) and Bardóc subdistrict (Bardóc fiúszék) in this relatively small area. My researches have led me to the conclusion that the evolution of these two administrative districts was determined by the Bacon-Barót River that separates the basin into two halves and acted as a natural borderline between the Sepsi and the Telegdi Szeklers during the settlement of the Szekler Hungarians in Transylvania. Miklósvár district was founded on the territory of the Sepsi Szeklers, while Bardóc subdistrict was founded on the lands belonging to the Telegdi Szeklers. Both administrative units were granted the right to self government for internal affairs, but Bardóc subdistrict was more dependent on Udvarhely district (Udvarhelyszék) than Miklósvár district was on Sepsi district (Sepsiszék). These self-government forms were dissolved in 1877-1878, as part of a general administrative reform affecting the entire territory of Hungary. 68
