Case Study of Four Villages near Székelyudvarhely (Abstract) In the absence of written medieval sources regarding Székelyföld (Secuime/Szeklerland), the role of archaeological researches has become very important. This fact is reflected in the case of our study, in which we have analysed four villages with poorish written documents concerning their medieval history. The ramblings on terrain showed that, as in many cases on the territory of the Szeklerland, the beginnings of these settlements are under the actual ones. Farcád (Forţeni), Hodgya (FToghia) and Székelylengyelfalva (Poloniţa) were established in the 12th century, two of these villages having built parish churches in the romanesque style in the Arpadian period. Our research shows that the valley of the Sükő stream, an affluent of the Nagy-Küküllő river (Târnava Mare) was probably settled by Szeklers a few decades earlier than it was thought formerly. 182
