Wrongly Identified Toponyms of Secuime/Székelyföld/Szeklerland in the List of Papal Tithes (Abstract) The list of papal tithes from 1332-1337 is the most important historical source for the ecclesiastical topography of medieval Hungary, containing the names of parishes and of their priests paying yearly tenth of their income. Although these names are generally enumerated according to the administrative units (diocese, archdeaconate, district), reconstructing medieval church administration isn’t an easy work to do yet, because there are „miscellaneous” passages, too, and, in addition to this, several names became deformed during the long process of editing. False identifications or classifications could be avoided only by using complex methods: taking into account the structural characteristics of the text, the paleographical possibilities, the local historical data (e.g. the patron saint’s name of a parish, the lack or existence of a church in a village in the premodern era) etc. Based on these methods, this study tries to list and to correct the wrongly identified or classified names of parishes from Secuime/Székelyföld/Szeklerland region, which included medieval Tileagd/ Telegd and Chizd/Kézd archdeaconates, and Sepsi district of Alba/Fehér archdeaconate. 113
