BUDAPEST BEVÉTELEI ÉS BERUHÁZÁSAI A KÉT VILÁGHÁBORÚ KÖZÖTT THE REVENUES AND INVESTMENTS OF BUDAPEST IN THE INTERWAR PERIOD By Sipos András SUMMARY Based on the final accounts of the municipality of Budapest, the study examines the types of municipal revenues and expenses, and the evolution of their volumes and proportions, in the period between 1925 and 1940. It deals with the consolidation of the debts stemming from pre-World War I currency loans, which was a precondition of introducing normal economic order from 1925. It analyses the structure of revenues deriving from tax income, public services and asset management, as well as the underlying economic processes and socio-political conflicts. It was by this time that a city-owned sector of modern public facilities had been established, whose profit-oriented tariff policy became one of the pillars of the municipal budget. The study pays great attention to loans and their role in the realisation of the municipality’s investment and development goals. The decisions of urban management highlight the responsibilities of the capital as a selfgovernment and public body, the problems of developing and running the city, as well as their economic, social, administrational, political and intellectual background. 942
