SUMMARY

Byway micro-analysis, the paper aims to open up alternative possibilities of interpretation with regards to the problem of living on the border in the first third of the twentieth century. The research is mainly based on contemporary marriage registrations and the documents of the Hungarian Delegation of the Hungaro-Romanian Border Committee. The author attempts to reconstruct the changes that may have taken place in terms of familiy relationships across the border zone that remained in Hungary and the area allotted to Romania through the example of the society of the village of Léta

and

nighbouring settlements in Bihar county. Another aim of the paper is to map the lateral economic relations between the villages covered by the research.
