NŐI KÁDEREK A RÁKOSI-KORSZAKBAN 134 FEMALE CADRES IN THE RÁKOSI ERA by Orsolya Ring – László Kiss – Anna Turnai SUMMARY The article explores the social mobility of women with membership of the Hungarian Workers’ Party. The social historical analysis is based on career-related and biographical data have survived in the archives of the Department of Mass Organizations of the Hungarian Workers’ Party. These data are based on lists of Communist functionaries according to authority and competence made late in 1955. The data have made possible , before all, an examination of the intragenerational social mobility of the individual s . Here, the main question was whether the holding of party or state office during the Rákosi era meant a rise in relation to the original occupation. As a next step, the results of the mobility analyses were tested in relation to various correlations, seeking an answer to the question of what factors may have influenced the changes that occurred in the social status of the individuals.
