2020 / 5. szám - TANULMÁNYOK - Bácsatyai Dániel: IV. Béla és István ifjabb király belháborújának időrendje

IV. BÉLA ÉS ISTVÁN IFJABB KIRÁLY BELHÁBORÚJÁNAK IDŐRENDJE 1082 sources and the body of knowledge related to them increased considerably, but some of his conclusions need to be modified. The present paper explores the narrative and charter sources related to the chronology of the civil war that opposed King Béla IV and his son, the younger King Stephen. The bloodiest episode of the war was the battle of Isaszeg, which Pauler dated exclusively on the basis of Hungarian charter material, rejecting the testimony of the contemporaneous Austrian annals, which identify the event under the year 1267. Nor did Pauler use for his reconstruction the information offered by Jans von Wien, and he did not have access to the recently published annals of the Formulary of Somogyvár, which likewise refer to the year 1267. Considering a number of further factors, the paper accordingly argues that the war and the battle in fact took place in 1267 instead of the winter of 1264/65.
