A VÖrÖS UrALOM MINT SZEMÉLYES ÉLMÉNY 886 A PErSONAL EXPErIENCE OF THE rULE OF THE rEDS By András J. Horváth SUMMArY The paper analyses three manuscript diaries kept in the Budapest City Archives. The first is the edited diary of a high-school teacher who lived through the era of the Hungarian republic of Councils in the countryside; the second belonged to a woman from Budapest and reflects a marital crisis between herself and her husband who just returned from the front, during the same period; whereas the third contains notes in the historia domus of a Calvinist nursing order. The paper aims to detect and analyse the divergent mental and emotional attitudes of persons of a different social background to the republic of Councils, as well as their behaviour and personal experiences. The objects of inquiry are a bitter disillusionment that gradually replaced initially dim hope in the teacher’s diary; the psychological role of governmental power in deepening the marital crisis in the diary of the wife; and, in the third case, the influence of ideologically opposing power on an ecclesiastical organization.
