WHERE DID ERZSÉBET SZILÁGYI LIVE WHEN SHE WAS STAYING IN BUDA? Remarks on the history of the royal curia of Nyék By Norbert C. Tóth SUMMARY The paper explores four issues that have long attracted scholarly attention: the history of the area known as the manor of ispán Kunc (in the second district of Budapest); the exact location of the manor; the history of neighbouring Nyék; and whether there was any connection between the manor and the royal curia at Nyék. From the time of the election of her son, Matthias Hunyadi, as King of Hungary in 1458 to her own death in 1484, Erzsébet Szilágyi resided partly in the royal castle of óbuda, and partly in the manor at Buda. Although she hired the manor from the collegiate chapter of Esztergom, after her death King Matthias took possession of it and, separating it from the territory of Buda, attached the manor to his estate at Nyék which he had obtained in the late 1470s. Based on written and archaeological sources, it is possible that the building(s) of the manor of ispán Kunc, inhabited by Elizabeth Szilágyi, and the royal villas at Nyék occupied the same location. After the death of Matthias, King Wladislas II, having cleared some of the existing buildings in the manor, constructed on the site the resort that is now known as the royal villa of Nyék.
