One of its conclusions is that, while the regime failed to draw Bánáss completely to its side, its tactics in the field of church policy nonetheless succeeded in undermining the solidarity of the Catholic bishops and the positions of the Catholic Church. For the policy advocated by Bánáss, based on a readiness to negotiate, proved unable to yield results in any important issue against a communist regime operating from a position of power, while proclamations made in favour of the government even led to embarrassment among the faithful.
