ÁLLAMFORDULAT ÉS AZ ÚJRASTRUKTURÁLÓDÓ HELYI ELIT BÁRTFÁN (1918–1919) 1236 REGIME CHANGE AND THE RESTRUCTURING OF THE LOCAL ELITE AT BÁRTFA (1918–1919) by Veronika Szeghy-Gayer SUMMARY The study explores the process of post-war collapse and the emergence of Czechoslovakia using the example of Bártfa (today Bardejov, Slovakia), a small town directly affected by the war. The local elite stand here for the political representatives of the town, that is, the close group constituted by the members of the urban municipality. Based above all on local archival sources, and employing the methods of local history and prosopography, the analysis mainly seeks to establish the extent to which the political leadership of Bártfa was transformed in the wake of the regime change of 1918–19. It argues that in the town the pre-1918 elite played a key role in the consolidation of the new Czechoslovak state.
