A FAJVÉDŐ PÁRTTÓL A NEMZETI RADIKALIZMUSIG 386 FROM ThE RACIST PARTY TO NATIONAL RADICALISM Endre Bajcsy-Zsilinszky 1926–1931 by Ákos Bartha SUMMARY Supported by the Racist Party, late in 1926 Endre Bajcsy-Zsilinszky made an unsuccessful attempt to retain his parliamentary seat that he had won at Derecske as a candidate backed by the governing party in 1922. At the same time, his former review called Szózat also ceased to exist, and he himself struggled with a serious illness. he left the presidency of the Magyar Országos Véderő Egylet (hungarian National Protective Union) at the end of 1927. The fall of the racist politician from Parliament, together with all its manifold consequences, is regarded by the author as a crucial event of Bajcsy-Zsilinszky’s life that has so far received unduly little attention. This two-part study accordingly explores in detail the influence that the agitation of the political arena exerted on him and devotes attention to the hitherto uncollected journalistic achievement of the politician and his emerging world view. Finally, the program and ideology of the National Radical Party, founded by Bajcsy-Zsilinszky in 1930, is also assessed.
