1304 SZIKLA GERGŐ 1901-ben Hajdú vármegyében a járások számát háromra növelték:79 Központi, Hajdúböszörményi és Hajdúszoboszlói. Az utóbbi kettőnek a székhelye a névadó település, a Központié pedig Debrecen volt. A megmaradt három rendezett tanácsú város továbbra is őrizte jogállását. A trianoni békediktátum rendelkezései Hajdú vármegye területét nem érintették. ADMINISTRATIVE CHANGES IN BIHAR AND HAJDÚ COUNTIES IN THE SECOND HALF OF THE NINETEENTH CENTURY by Gergő Szikla Summary Bihar was not only one of the oldest counties of historical Hungary, but also one of the largest. Yet its territory had gradually decreased, although modification was limited from the late seventeenth century. It was after the suppression of the Revolution and War of Independence of 1848-49 that those administrational transformations began, which were aimed to meet the expectations of an increasingly bureaucratic system. The administrative divisions of Bihar county, established in the early eighteenth century, had undergone only minor changes over the one and a half centuries before the Revolution; between 1850 and 1920, however, it was subject to major changes that profoundly altered its internal administrative structure. Moreover, from 1850 to 1860 it was divided into two parts. It was during the general regulation of municipal territories in 1876 that Hajdú county was formed from the Hajdú districts, and some settlements previously belonging to Bihar and Szabolcs; its capital became the free royal town of Debrecen. The peace treaty signed on 4 June 1920 left Hajdú county unaffected, unlike that of Bihar, which lay in the way of the new state border.
